The band members are currently or have been associated with Idyllwild Arts in the past: George “Richard” (George Pratt), keyboards/vocals, is currently on the humanities faculty and also serves as a dorm head; Shambo “Richard” (Shambo Carpenter), guitar/vocals, is also on the humanities faculty in addition to his dorm parent duties; Mark “Richard” (Mark Berres), drums/percussion, was a faculty member and percussion director from 1987 to 2005; Jim “Richard” (Jim Lewis), bass/vocals, is the brother of one of the front desk receptionists from a few years back; Kasaan “Richard” (Kasaan Hammon), vocals/percussion, is an alum of Idyllwild Arts (’89) and part-time faculty member; and Don “Richard” (Don Put), guitar/vocals, founded the Creative Writing department back in 1995 and most recently served as the Director of College Counseling and the Arts Enterprise Lab.

Individual Bios

George “Richard” Pratt (keyboards/vocals/percussion)
Over the 30+ years of playing keyboards and bass, most of George’s bands have lived up to their names—Malfunktion had equipment that always broke down, Dysfunktional Family frequently fought, the Accelerators played awfully fast, Genetic Control was, well, very controlled, and so forth. He’s glad to see that tradition continue.

Kasaan “Richard” Hammon (vocals/percussion)
Kasaan has performed as a vocalist with the bands 5 Guys Named Moe (Portland, OR), Kate Dovelyn Band (Philadelphia, PA) and as a solo artist in New York City and Los Angeles. She was a recording artist on Elektra Records and has been a featured performed on the Maury Povich show. Her original songs have received airplay and recognition on Top 40 radio, songwriting competitions, and the motion picture soundtrack for the film Crossfire. She is a graduate of Idyllwild Arts Academy.

Mark “Richard” Berres (drums/percussion)
Mark has been playing music for a long time (note: salt/pepper hair), on 3 continents, playing a wide variety of percussion instruments. He's been a performer at Idyllwild Jazz In The Pines several times with the Idyllwild Arts Academy faculty ensemble and other groups. He was a IAA faculty member and percussion director from 1987 thru 2005.

Jim “Richard” Lewis (bass/vocals)
Born in Southern California, Jim started playing drums at age 6, playing professionally from age 11 through age 18. He began playing bass guitar at age 18, attended Dick Grove School of Music in Studio City, becoming a freelance professional musician in the Los Angeles area in the late 70s. Jim has accompanied artists as a hired union musician, pocket bass player, and studio work and fill-in player with many established solo artists, rock, blues, and country bands.

Don “Richard” Put (guitar/vocals)
Don started playing guitar at age nine but soon lost interest because his teacher was trying to get him to play I Left My Heart in San Francisco after The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. This conflicted mightily with his innate desire to play rock ‘n’ roll. At age 19, he picked up the guitar again and spent almost 20 years playing acoustic, flat-picked bluegrass tunes. In the mid-90s, he bought an electric guitar and has been playing rock, blues, soul, and R&B ever since. This is his third appearance at Idyllwild Jazz In The Pines.
